The RE CPD Team began life as the Royal Engineers Vocational Qualifications (RE VQ) Team in January 1997, initially with one member of staff, the RE VQ Officer. The original role of the RE VQ Team was to introduce National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) alongside or in place of older style qualifications such as Craft Awards at the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) Construction Engineer School at Chatham.

By mid-1997, the Royal Engineers Vocational Education and Training Trust (REVETT) had been established to manage, resource and employ the RE VQ Team. The Trust is a registered Charity (number 1068709) largely funded through the Learning & Skills Council but also has access to limited Ministry of Defence funding.
With many NVQs successfully introduced over the years, the Team grew in size and began work at the RSME Combat Engineer School in Minley and in other Royal Engineers units and training establishments. By 2005 it was clear that the Team's role and responsibilities had outgrown the limited title of Vocational Qualifications, and it was re-designated as the RE CPD Team to reflect its much wider remit. The Team is still managed and funded by REVETT.
Based in Chatham at the RSME, the RE CPD Team head office is the driving force behind all RE CPD activity and is directly involved in many qualifications schemes at the Construction Engineer School. Branch offices operate a number of award schemes at the Combat Engineer School in Minley and Engineer Resource Division at Deepcut.
The RE CPD Team currently has eleven staff members across the three sites. The Team supports the provision of qualifications & training in many of the skills areas associated with military engineering, including construction, engineering and telecommunications.
