RECRUITS (PHASE 1)
Junior entrants at the Army Development Centre (Bassingbourne) and adult recruits at all Army Training Regiments achieve the wider Key Skills Level 1 or 2 in: Improving Own Learning and Performance, Working With Others and Problem Solving. Junior Entrants at the Army Foundation College (Harrogate) may achieve an Apprenticeship in Information Technology and those allocated to Military Engineer (Fitter General) may gain NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations.

ROYAL ENGINEERS TRAINING PROGRAMMES
The following qualification possibilities are available on the programmes shown. Where the full award is not gained on the course, the remaining experience required to complete the award can be obtained in a field unit. The list is sorted by trade then course level.

Military Engineer Trade Course   Civilian Qualification(s)

Class 3 ME (Combat)   Aspiration is, from mid-late 06, Level 2 Keys Skills in Application of Number, Communication, Information Technology, Improving Own Learning & Performance and Working With Others.

Class 1 ME (Combat)   Certificate in General Construction Work.

Class 3 ME (C3Systems)   Telecommunications Apprenticeship. This includes a Level 2 NVQ in Communication Technologies: Practitioner and Level 1 Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Communication Technology.

Class 1 ME (C3Systems)   Level 3 NVQ Telecommunications Technologies: Professional.

Class 3 ME (Driver)   Level 2 NVQ Driving Goods Vehicles in Driving Goods by Road may be offered at Defence School of Transport by the DEFLOG VQ Trust.

Class 1 ME (Driver)   Level 3 NVQ Driving Goods Vehicles may be offered.

Class 2 ME (Driver Specialist) Crane   Level 2 NVQ Plant Operations (Construction).

Class 2 ME (Driver Specialist) ABLE   Level 2 NVQ Plant Operations (Construction).

Class 2 ME (Armoured Engineer)   Level 2 NVQ Vehicle Fitting may be offered from April 2006.

Class 2 ME (Bomb Disposal)   Level 2 NVQ Contribute to the Search and/or Disposal Function may be offered.

Class 1 ME (Bomb Disposal)   Level 3 NVQ Search for & Disposal of Munitions may be offered.

Class 2 ME (Builder & Structural Finisher)   Basic Craft Award may be offered.

Class 1 ME (Builder & Structural Finisher)   Advanced Craft award may be offered.

Class 2 ME (Bricklayer & Concretor)   Intermediate Construction Award in Trowel Occupations plus CITB Health & Safety Theory Test.

Class 1 ME (Bricklayer & Concretor)   Advanced Construction Award in Trowel Occupations.

Class 2 ME (Carpenter & Joiner)   Intermediate Construction Award in Wood Occupations plus CITB Health & Safety Theory Test.

Class 1 ME (Carpenter & Joiner)   Advanced Construction Award in Wood Occupations.

Class 2 ME (Construction Materials Technician)   Level 2 NVQ Level 2 Laboratory & Associated Technical Activities may be offered.

Class 1 ME (Construction Materials Technician)   Level 3 NVQ Laboratory & Associated Technical Activities may be offered.

Class 2 ME (Design Draughtsman) National Certificate in Building Studies may be offered.

Class 1 ME (Design Draughtsman)   Higher National Certificate Building Studies plus AutoCAD and Open University credits may be offered.

Class 2 ME (Draftsman Electrical & Mechanical)   Computer Aided design using AutoCAD may be offered.

Class 1 ME (Draftsman Electrical & Mechanical)   Higher National Certificate Building Services Engineering plus Open University credits may be offered.

Class 2 ME (Electrician)   Basic Craft Award and C&G 2381 Electrical Certification may be offered.

Class 1 ME (Electrician)   Craft Award and C&G 2381 and 2391 Electrical Certification may be offered.

Class 2 ME (Fabricator)   Apprenticeship in Engineering. This includes Level 2 NVQ Fabrication & Welding Engineering (Manual Welding), the progression award in Engineering, Level 1 Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and IT, and Level 2 Key Skills in Improving Own Learning & Performance and Working With Others.

Class 1 ME (Fabricator)   Level 3 NVQ Fabrication & Welding Engineering Sheet Metal Working (3mm or less).

Class 2 ME (Fitter Air Conditioning & Refrigeration)   Level 2 Certificate in Small Commercial Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems.

Class 1 ME (Fitter Air Conditioning & Refrigeration)   Nil at present.

Class 1 ME (Fitter Equipment)   Level 3 Engineering Maintenance.

Class 2 ME (Fitter General)   Apprenticeship in Engineering is now operating. This includes Level 2 NVQ Engineering Maintenance, the Progression Award in Engineering, Level 1 Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and IT, and Level 2 Key Skills in Improving Own Learning & Performance and Working With Others.

Class 1 ME (Fitter Machinist)   Level 3 NVQ Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (Machining)

Class 1 ME (Fitter Utilities & Petroleum)   Level 3 Engineering Maintenance.

Class 2 ME (Geographic Data Technician)   Certificate in Higher Education - Foundation Degree Part 1.

Class 2 ME (Geographic Production Technician)   Certificate in Higher Education - Foundation Degree Part 1.

Class 2 ME (Geographic Terrain Technician)   Certificate in Higher Education - Foundation Degree Part 1.

Class 1 ME (Heating & Plumbing)   Corgi Accredited Certification Scheme for Gas and BPEC Water Regulations Certificate.

Class 2 ME (Plant Operator Mechanic)   Apprenticeship in Construction. This includes a Level 2 NVQ in Plant Operations (Construction), an Intermediate Construction Award, Level 1 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number, the CITB Health & Safety Theory Test, and should also produce the Construction Plant Competency Scheme Card.

Class 1 ME (Plant Operator Mechanic)   Nil at present.

Class 3 ME (Resources Specialist)   Level 2 NVQ Distribution & Warehousing. From May 06, an Apprenticeship in Wholesale, Distribution, Warehousing and Storage will be trialled; this includes a Level 2 NVQ and Level 1 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number.

Attendance on these courses may lead to the civilian certificates and awards shown below, provided that the candidates put in the extra work needed to demonstrate the knowledge and/or experience required. Further qualifications may be available on Army Command Leadership and Management courses provided at Army Education Centres.
